About UsCajun Copper Creations was born out of a desire to represent the natural beauty of southern Louisiana. Derick and Katherine have always loved the outdoors and are happy to have an avenue to express their profound appreciation for their area's bayous, swamps, and marshes. They hope to be able to bring a little bit of nature's beauty into people's homes everywhere.
What makes Cajun Copper Creations unique is the integration of various kinds of driftwood, such as cypress and live oak, with a representation of what can be found in the area's swamps and marshes that is fashioned by hand from copper. Every piece of driftwood has been handpicked by Derick and Katherine from the shores and marshes of Lake Pontchartrain. Each one is wonderfully unique and marked by its journey through time by the gentle action of the waves of Lake Pontchartrain. The driftwood is most often presented in its natural state, without alteration, to highlight nature's own brushstrokes. Each copper piece is handcrafted and pure - they use no plastics or resins - with Derick cutting and welding each creation by hand in his shop in Abita Springs, bringing forth all of the colors of the rainbow hidden naturally in the copper. |
Who We Are |
Although Derick by trade has been a welder for over twenty years and has been an avid outdoorsman, he has always had the soul of an artist. Working with copper and being able to interpret the beauty found in the swamps and marshes of southern Louisiana has become a passion for him. His keen eye and steady hands work to create the things of the swamp and marshes that bring him joy. His wife, Katherine, has been a high school teacher for decades and is relishing the opportunity to paint and create practical items that showcase nature's unparalleled beauty. They consider themselves very blessed to be able to enjoy the tranquility of their Abita Springs home and love spending time on the lake exploring the surrounding marshes, crawfishing in Honey Island Swamp, and duck hunting in the nearby marshes in their free time.
